Festival of Flowers (Conclusion)

It's our last day at the Festival of Flowers and there is still lots to see!!
Let's get started...

At the opposite end of the tent from the bay house, you will find one of the best loved venues of the show, Seeds of Wisdom.  In this presentation, beloved books by southern authors are brought to life with floral design.

Big Fish by Daniel Wallace

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Jerry Lee Lewis: His Own Story by Rick Bragg

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt

Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling

Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou

Each book is represented with such attention to detail, as well as beautiful flowers.  It's hard to leave this area, but right behind it is the container garden venue with a display of wonderfully decorated bird baths!

Two bird baths, one on top of the other!

Marking the edges of the container garden venue were these gorgeous urns....

At this end of the tent you will also find the seminar room.  Here's a list of some of the seminars offered during the festival this year:

Succulent Gardening on Picture Frames & Wreaths
How To Grow Beautiful Roses
Southern Native Landscape
From Store-Bought To Stunning - Arranging Market Flowers
The Outdoor Room
 Significance of Our Southern Plants

One of our favorite seminars was A Midlife Bloom by Margot Shaw  the editor of Flower magazine.  She told her life story and how it all led to the desire to start this magazine. Her story was very inspiring.

But our MOST favorite seminar was Flowers For The Southern SoirĂ©e presented by floral designer, Benny Campbell. Benny's presentation about floral arranging for parties was fast paced and informative, and Benny himself was fun and funny!!  Here are some of his arrangements...

So it has been another amazing festival, a feast for the eyes!
Now there's nothing left to do but.....

shop!!!

 Of course!!!

The festival offers The Gardener's Galleria filled with everything gardening; tools, plants, pots, etc.  They are known for having the most wonderful assortment of ferns.  There are also stunning native azaleas in yellows, oranges, and pinks. I spent a lot of time at the daylily booth.

Before we go, let me share one of my favorite ideas from the festival; it was just so clever.  If you want that "picket fence" look in your garden but don't want to actually dig holes and set posts, check out this idea...

Just prop a roll of pickets ($15 at Lowes)  against your house. The look you want, without any work!!

Well, it's been fun!

Love ya'll,
Shelli

There can be no other occupation like gardening in which, if you were to creep up behind someone at their work, you would find them smiling.
