Downton Abbey Withdrawal

No matter how deep into denial you have dropped since last night's forever finale of Downton Abbey, the Crawley's are not coming back!!  But not to worry, I have another BBC series to recommend; so back away from the edge!

Lark Rise to Candleford is a series that aired in Great Britain in January of 2008 and ran for four seasons. It is based on the semi-autobiographical novels by Flora Thompson. Wikkipedia describes the series as follows:
The series is set in the small Oxfordshire hamlet of Lark Rise and the wealthier neighbouring market town of Candleford towards the end of the 19th century. The series chronicles the daily lives of farm workers, craftsmen, and gentry, observing the characters in loving, boisterous, and competing communities of families, rivals, friends, and neighbours.
The story is seen through the eyes of a teenage girl, Laura Timmins (Olivia Hallinan), as she leaves Lark Rise to start a new life under the wing of her mother's cousin, the independent and effervescent Dorcas Lane (Julia Sawalha), who is Post Mistress at the local Post Office in Candleford. Through these two characters, viewers experience the force of friendship as Laura and Dorcas see each other through the best and worst of times.

And best of all, Downton Abbey's Mr. Bates is a central character! The episodes are charming, funny, and thought provoking. The series was recommended to me by my good friend and Bible study teacher, Dalerie Moller. I foound it on Netflix. You're going to love it, and Lark Rise to Candleford will get you through your Downton Abbey withdrawal!!

Love ya'll,
Shelli
